Images Don't Delete!

You clicked the delete button and the image was still there! What’s happening?

In fact, the image really has been deleted in the database. The problem is that it still shows in your browser. The reason is because of “browser caching”.

What Is “Caching”

Browsers will store locally (“cache”) on your computer snapshots of the latest pages you have viewed on the web. The reason is to speed up access should you request the same page again in the near future. Browser makers play “my browser is faster than your browser” games by using caching techniques to speed up their average access times. In these days of fast networks, it’s unnecessary – and it’s pernicious because the information on the page may have changed and you are viewing the old information.

That is why you are still seeing your image when it has really “gone”.

What To Do:

It’s not pretty!

You can try restarting your browser. Sometimes – but rarely - that will clear the cache of the offending page. Caches can be very persistent (Internet Explorer is the worst) and browser creators arrogantly believe they know better than you do.

You can try reloading the page while bypassing your cache. Click here for how to do this with different browsers. Theoretically, this reloads the page from the original source not from your local cache. The problem is that it does not always work.

You can try clearing your cache, emptying it of all past versions. Click here for the different ways of doing this for different browsers. Again this does not always work. You may have to try several times, possibly closing and re-opening your browser in between – or even restarting your computer. Hint: before clearing your cache, first go to a different page than the one you are trying to update.

If all else fails, upload your image (and title!) to another “slot” such as one of the makeup slots. The system will not penalize you for having entered too many images, since the original image really was deleted as far as the system is concerned.

Sorry for the inconvenience, but right now there is not much that can be done.
